Ever since the Buccaneer II was introduced people have
been enjoying a splashin' good time with it. You and a buddy
can just flip a lever to lower the gear for hard-surface or
grass landings.
Pull the lever the other way, and the gear comes up for
splash-down (which it will do 275 feet), without the need
for expensive and performance robbing add-on floats.
The fiberglass sandwich hull, attached to sturdy aluminum
tubing, allows the Buccaneer to handle some surprisingly
rough water. |

A really neat feature is that
you can even lower the gear while you're in the water to
make a beach landing -- to impress the girls. The
Buccaneer II takes off in only 325 feet (land) or 300
(water) and can climb at an impressive 500 fpm. You can push
the speed up to 90 mph or cruise along at 69 mph. Wingspan
is 29 inches; length, 22 feet 4 inches; height, 7 feet even.
The Buc II is a rough and ready two-seater. Able to haul
quite a load(560 lbs.), it offers excellent water handling,
pleasant and comfortable seating, and mild-mannered flying
qualities.
The Buccaneer took about 150 hours to assemble. The
complete kit including engine, prop and instruments, sold
for just under $20,000.00 in 1994.
Zoom Report: One of the ultimate freedom
machines.. handling is just plain incredible. The Bucc II is
a very mild creature. Gear retraction chores have been
greatly simplified.
