Aircraft started
arriving before 9 a.m. and the last plane left for home just after 5 p.m.
When I
arrived around 1 p.m. the aircraft parking area was lined 3 deep with both
conventional and ultralight aircraft. Approximately 50 aircraft flew in
with nearly half of these being ultralights.
Another 200
enthusiasts arrived by land from as far away as Ottawa. The Edenvale
Flying Club had three of their trainers going all day giving introductory
flying lessons.
Milan Kroupa owner of
the Edenvale Flying Club and Gilles Mercier, co-owner of the school,
EdenFlight Training Centre, treated pilots and guests to breakfast and
lunch along with soft drinks and salads. During the afternoon two barbeques
were kept going full time serving hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken.
The Edenvale Flying
Club is located on 400 acres of land and features a 2500 foot
paved strip and an adjacent grass strip, with a 7500 foot square hangar. It
also has
classroom facilities for 20 students and offers an "aviator room" for
students that
features overnight accommodations,
washroom with shower and a kitchenette.
Motels,
shopping, and tourist attractions are just minutes away in Stayner,
Collingwood, Town of the Blue Mountains and Barrie. Currently the school
employs four instructors, and has 65 students enrolled in courses.
Training is
done in the Evektor SportStar EV 97, and the Chinook 912 Plus 2.
