Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include
weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes,
powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

The Javelin was first introduced by
Flightworks/Capella
aircraft in 1995. It is an open-air bugs in your teeth, back
to basic ultralight flyer.
It uses metal and fabric
construction with reported building time of less than
100 hours. All of the parts were preformed and ready for
assembly.
The first Javelin, I saw at Sun N Fun was
powered by a Rotax 277, single cylinder 28 hp engine. Later
models were equipped with the Rotax 377 using a 2.58 - 1 B
reduction drive. in talking to the designer at that time, he
indicated that the Javelin could be powered by engines from
28 to 50 hp. |

Cruise speed on the Javelin is 55 mph
depending on engine. Climb rate varied from 400 feet a
minute, with the lower horse power engines, to over 1000
ft./m with the larger engines. Stall speed is 25 mph. The
Javelin is 6 feet high, and 18 feet long. The wingspan is 28 feet, and the wing area is
112 ft.?. According to the factory the Javelin has been
tested to +4 and -2 g's.
Empty weight on the Javelin depending on engine starts at 240
lbs, gross weight comes in at 575 lbs. With full fuel this
gives the craft the ability to carry nearly 300 lbs. The
Javelin has folding
wings for storage. Options included brakes, a forward
fairing, and powder coating. |
