The Zenith STOL CH 701 is a
two seat aircraft designed by Canadian aeronautical engineer
Chris Heintz. The CH 701 first flew in 1986.The kit is
produced and distributed in the USA by the Zenith Aircraft
Company, and complete drawings (blueprints and manuals) are
also available for the design.
As well several companies
offer quick-build kits, which reduces the building times of
the aircraft. In Europe, the CH 701 was manufactured under
license by Czech Aircraft Works (CZAW) from 1992 until 2006,
when the license agreement was ended. |

The CH 701 has been referred
to as the "JEEP" of the light sport aircraft industry, for
its rugged design. The CH 701 features a high-lift wing with
full-span, non-movable leading edge slats, an all flying
rudder, large tires, flaperons and an inverted elevator,
that contribute to the aircraft's STOL capabilities. The CH
701 is also available with straight floats or amphibious
floats. The STOL CH
701 has the unique distinction of being one of the most
copied light sport aircraft on the market. Over a dozen
unauthorized versions have been produced around the world.
The CH 701 fits into TP
10141 the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association of Canada
(LAMAC) design standards, and can be built and flown
as a basic ultra-light, advanced ultra-light or
amateur-built aircraft in Canada
The CH 701 can be flown
under microlight/ultralight rules in several other countries
also. U.S. pilots may fly the CH 701 under FAA Light-sport
Aircraft rules or as an experimental amateur-built aircraft. |
