The Kolb Laser is a low-wing, side-by-side taildragger is
powered by a Rotax 582.
A large bubble canopy offers outstanding visibility while
detachable wing panels offer excellent versatility and easy
trailering in less than 30 minutes.
The cabin is quite roomy, with excellent shoulder and leg
room. |

The Laser is built upon a steel tube
fuselage, aluminum wing ribs and sub-structure and is fabric
covered. The 450-pound Laser has a payload of 400 pounds, a
fuel capacity of 10 gallons and a very solid climb rate of
950 feet per minute. We found the prototype Laser to be an
easy landing aircraft with excellent ground stability.
Overall in-flight handling is modestly aggressive but still
suitable for novice pilots. The Laser will easily cruise 110
mph and has a gentle stall of 40 mph. One of our test
flights necessitated a dead-stick landing after a water line
broke and we found the power-off capabilities (good glide,
excellent slip) to not only be good but downright
delightful. A winner.
Zoom Report: Homer Kolb has an uncanny knack of
designing neat airplanes. The Laser will not spoil that
record. The excellent ground handling, mild slow speed
behavior, intoxicating visibility, roomy cabin and 100 mph
cruise makes this a neat airplane to consider.
