I first saw the Sadler Vampire at Airventure back in 1982, where it won Grand Champion ultralight. At that time, the vampire was a single seat ultralight aircraft that looked a lot like and mini jetfighter.

Then in 2006 I again ran into Bill Sadler, this time with his new experimental light sport aircraft version of the Vampire.

The light sport aircraft version of the Vampire features a 50 inch wide cabin, large gullwing style doors which allow for easy access, and great visibility. The Vampire LSA features a tricycle gear, in a pusher configuration, with standard three axis aircraft controls. According to the factory the all metal wings have been stress tested to 6 G's.

The original Sadler Vampire was powered by the Rotax 912 S, 100 hp four-cylinder, liquid cooled Rotax aircraft engine. Current production plans call for use of the Jabiru 3300 six-cylinder direct drive, air cooled, 120 hp aircraft engine. The Vampire LSA has an empty weight of approximately 700 pounds. This gives a payload with full fuel of approximately 500 pounds. Maximum speed is around 120 kn, with a cruise speed at 75% power of 110 kn. Climb out is between 800 and 1000 ft./m.

Like it's single place predecessor, the Sadler Vampire LSA has folding wings, which can be forward by one person, in approximate 10 minutes. With the wings folded, the width of the aircraft is 8 feet, with and nose to tail length of 18 feet. This means The Vampire will fit quite comfortably into a one car garage, it is also easily transportable allowing pilots options other than hangaring at an airport.
