The Storch which is German for "Stork," is a 3/4 scale
version of the original 1936 design. Construction used in
the craft is 4130 chromoly tubing for the fuselage with all
aluminum wings.
Both the fuselage and wings
are covered in "stits style fabric." The main landing gear
is also made from 4130 tubing and has a travel of 10
inches.
The comes with brakes standard and two wing tanks with a
total capacity of 70 liters. The original single place
version was powered by the 618 Rotax. The two place can be
powered by the 912/914 ultralight motor or the 912/914

The plane flying at Sun N Fun
was powered by the 914 Rotax turbo - putting out 115 hp, and
a three blade in flight adjustable Warp Drive propeller.
These combination had to be seen to be believed! Sun N Fun
is known for it's windy conditions. On these days the Storch
took off twice without turning a wheel, landing in less than
15 feet,
and
then BACKING UP.
That's right backing up, up landing Nestor would reverse the
pitch on the propeller which allowed the craft to back up.
The Storch kit takes between 400 and 600 hours to build. The
kit comes sans engine, engine mount, propeller, instruments,
or covering material. The builder requires only basic tools
and equipment to finish assembly of the plane. |
