Light Sport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include
weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes,
powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

The Woopy Fly is a compact
little ultralight trike that can be disassembled and stored
away in the trunk of a car for transport to an airfield
where in can be reassembled in a matter of minutes for
flight, by one person.
A pilot unfolds his trike style fuselage made from bolt
together aluminum tubing. He then inflates his wing,
attaches it to the trike unit and is ready to go.
The model shown in the accompanying video clip is being
powered by a gas engine, but pilots are also using electric
engines and battery packs for power. |

The wing is inflated by the
use of battery powered fans on the ground. But in the air it
is kept inflated by the use of ram air scoops located on the
bottom of the wings.
The total weight of the wing inflated is about 35 lbs.
The Woopy Fly uses weight shift control, which means the
pilot shifts his weight for and aft and left and right to
control the aircraft in the air. The Woopy Fly takes about
200 feet to get airborn and climbs out at around 200 feet
per minute.
While surfing the internet I see that it is also available
as just a flying wing which is used by skiers and hang
glider pilots.
