Light Sport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,

The Dragonfly is a
two-seat craft tandem seating aircraft specifically designed
to as a TUG for pulling hang gliders and ultralight glider
aloft.The occupants sit in tandem in the
Dragonfly and watch the earth go by. The Dragonfly
originally used the Rotax 582 and 618 engines but more
recent models have been powered by the Rotax 912 series of
four stroke engines. Rate of climb is 1400 fpm cruise is in
the 45 to 50 mph. |

The Dragonfly weighs in at 330 lbs. and has
a useful load of 470 lbs. Payload with full fuel is 434 lbs
and you'll get about 100 miles on that same load of fuel.
It is considered a microlight in Australia, an ultralight in
Canada and can be built as a amateur built - experimental
aircraft in the U.S. and flown with a sport pilots license.
Landing distance is a short 100' and
take-off distance is an even shorter 50'. The Dragonfly
stands 8' high and is 20' long. The wingspan on this
tubing-and-fabric bird is 34.7' with an area of 180 sq ft.
The Dragonfly is a tail dragger, with a center mounted
stick, left hand throttle and a set of very large junker
style ailerons. |
