that give a lot of bang for the buck!

Two aircraft at the Midwest Sport LSA Expo
that really give
a lot of bang for the buck, were the Cheetah and the X-Air.
Both of these aircraft are priced in the $55,000 to $60,000
range, which is a the low end of the spectrum for lightsport
aircraft.
They are both high wing aircraft, featuring side
by side seating, and a steerable nose wheel,
in a tractor configuration.
The Cheetah uses a center mounted stick, and
dual rudder pedals, and throttles while the X-Air has dual
sticks dual rudder pedals, and dual throttles.
Both aircraft are equipped with flaps, trim
and brakes, with the Cheetah's brake handle located on the
stick, and the X-Air equipped with toe brakes. |
|
The Cheetah is imported from South Africa
while the X-Air is imported from India but goes through an
"Americanization" process where the final engine,
instruments, brakes etc are installed in the U.S.
At the
show both aircraft were powered by the Jabiru four cylinder,
four stroke 85 HP, direct drive aircraft engine but can also
be powered by the Rotax 912, 80 and 100 HP four cylinder
four stroke aircraft engines.
They use similar
construction and building techniques, in that they use
aluminum tube bolt and rivet together construction covered
in dacron sailcloth.
The Cheetah is currently only offered as a
factory built ready to fly aircraft while the X-Air can also
be built from kit form with building times reported to be in
the 100 to 150 hour range. Blue Skies Sport Planes
represented X-Air at the show while the Cheetah was
displayed by Midwest Sport Aviation it's U.S. distributor. |
