Light Sport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include
weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes,
powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

So if you are looking for an
all metal low wing you could pretty well see everything that
is offered in the LSA category at this years Midwest LSA
show.
Four light sport aircraft that fit the bill are the
RANS S19, the Evektar Sportstar, the Breezer II, and the
RV12.
Another thing they have in common is that they are all
side by side seating, with dual stick controls, featuring
tricycle landing gear, in a tractor configuration.
They are
all also powered by the Rotax 912 100 HP aircraft engine.
All four also have wide comfortable cockpits equipped with
sliding canopies which provide excellent visibility.

The Breezer II is manufactured in Germany available as and
LSA, the Evektor SportStar in the Czech Republic available
as an LSA, with the RANS S19 available as an LSA, ELSA or
Experimental Amateurbuilt and RV 12 manufactured in
the United States available as a ELSA or Experimental
Amateurbuilt.
VANS aircraft manufacturers of the RV 12, has produced over
7,000 kits of all models and is considered to be one of the
largest aircraft kit manufacturers in the world. RANS
aircraft manufacturers of the RANS S19 has delivered over
4500 aircraft of all models to customers since they began
production of ultralight and experimental aircraft in the
early 80's. The Breezer II has been flying since 2000 and
with most of it's sales in Europe, the SportStar was the
very first lightsport aircraft to certified in the United
States, and is one of the top ranking aircraft in a recent
market survey. On two
aircraft the Breezer II and the RV 12 the pilot enters the
plane from the front of the wing, while on the RANS S19 and
the SportStar entry is from the rear of the wing. Steering
on the ground is via a castering nosewheel and brakes on the
RV12, RANS S19, while the Breezer and Evektor have steerable
nosewheels. In the U.S.
the RV 12 is sold out of the VANS Aircraft factory in
Oregon. The Breezer II is marketed in the U.S. Mike Z of
Breezer Aircraft U.S.A. out of Plant City Florida. The
Evektor Sportstar is sold by a through a dealer network
throughout the U.S. with the plane at the Midwest LSA Show
provided by AB Flight out of Allentown Pennsylvania. The
RANS S19 is available direct from the factory, but RANS also
has an very well established dealer network across the U.S. |
