It is getting fairly costly to attend U.S.
aviation shows, a week away from home with
transportation to and from the event, food, rental car and accommodations
usually runs over $2000.00 for the
week.
So, I am having to pick which shows are worth the money. But one show, the
Midwest LSA Expo in Mt. Vernon, Illinois is one that I just haven't been able to
scratch off my list.
While not one of the bigger shows, it is focused on
light sport aircraft, and is well attended by dealers,
manufacturers, and vendors.
The
show is held at the Mount Vernon Outland airport which is located on 1100 acres of
land with a 6500 foot paved runway and features a full-service FBO, flight
instruction, aircraft sales, and hangar facilities. It also has an air rescue
firefighting station as well as an Air Evac Lifeteam base. |

The success of the show can be attributed to
the support of area businesses, including the Mount Vernon Airport Authority,
the Jefferson County development Corporation, the Mount Vernon convention and
visitors Bureau, and the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce who have worked
with the Midwest Light Sport Expo to make the show such a success.
According to
Chris Collins airport manager the show came about when his group was approached
by some local light sport aircraft manufacturers with the idea of putting
on a show fashioned after U.S. Sport Aviation Expo held in Sebring Florida.
This year seven new aircraft
manufacturers were present at the show, with over 50
models of lightsport aircraft on display. Including for the
first time in the U.S. the introduction of a new lightsport
aircraft called the Ekolot Topaz KR 030. The plane arrived
from Poland on Tuesday and was trucked down and set up at
the show two days later.
The exhibitors hall was
also packed with aviation supply firms like SuperFlight,
Falcon Gauges, Leading Edge Air Foils, Dynon, Wicks, and
Garmin.
Like anything else in life, your choice of a
lightsport aircraft involves a decision on what type of
aircraft you are looking for, what price range, high wing,
low wing, midwing, composite, tube and fabric, side by side
seating, front and back the list goes on and on.
So lets group some of the planes that
attended the Midwest LSA Show 2010 and have a look at them. |
