Aircraft part 103 legal ultralight

Over the past
several years a small company has been making steady inroads
into the light sport and ultralight aircraft market. It
entered the market by buying a very successful single place
ultralight aircraft design.
It then modified the design to make it a legal part 103
ultralight in both a trike and tail dragger version. Then
made it available as a kit for the experimental amateur
built market.
Then they searched the market and found a set of floats for
their planes, so that pilots wanting to fly on floats could
have that opportunity. |

They then
showed up at Sun N Fun and Airventure and walked away with a
number of awards for their troubles! The company of course
is Belite Aircraft owned and operated by James Weibe and his
wife. This year at Sun N Fun 2011 they walked away with
another award this time for "Best Commercial
Ultralight" with their Belite SuperTrike.
Belite SuperTrike is a legal
part 103 ultralight aircraft in a tricycle gear
configuration. It features standard three axis control, with
a center mounted stick, left hand throttle, and has the
ability to fold it's wings for ease of storage. The
SuperTrike is powered by a unique 35 HP, twin cylinder
liquid cooled four stroke engine, that weights in at an
incredible 60 lbs., and comes standard with electric start
and generating system. The roots of the engine are from the
award winning Italia Aprilia scooter engine the JCV-360.
The unit at Sun N Fun was flying using a belt drive and
spinning what looked to be a 60 inch propeller. Jim reports
the engine burns just under two gallons of fuel per hour,
and has a reported TBO of 700 hours. For more information on
the engine visit ww.flydiver.com the U.S. Distributor.
James had his SuperTrike
decked out with his Belite Aircraft Instruments. In fact a
lot of manufacturers including Fisher Flying Products and
others could be seen displaying his engine and aircraft
instrument packages through out the ultralight and
lightsport aircraft area. These light weight reliable
systems weigh in at only 12 ounces, and are available in 2
1/4 round and 1 3/4 square gauge sizes to fit any panel.
At a press conference at Sun N
Fun Belite introduced their latest instrument, a water in
fuel detection device. It is still in the R&D stages but is
expected to be ready for unveiling at Airventure.
