If the ultralight movement is going to rebound from the blow it suffered with the introduction of the light sport aircraft rule, then it will be because of manufacturers like Fisher Aircraft who have been producing safe, fun flying, all wood aircraft designs.

Designs that can be built from plans or from kits with prices starting at $5,400.00 with the highest model kit priced at less than $15,000.00

In kit form a customer can purchase a full airframe kit, partial kits, or quick build kits. The factory is now located in Toronto Ontario Canada, with the raw materials purchased from mills just two hours from the factory.

Fisher produces fourteen different models of aircraft, four two seat monoplanes, five bi-planes, and six single seat monoplanes.

In single place Fisher offers the Avenger a low wing tractor, the FP 202 Koala a high wing tractor, the FP 303 low wing tractor, and the FP 505 Skeeter all of which are tail draggers, and the FP 606 Sky Baby a high wing Fisher Flying Products all wood Dakota Hawk experimental light sport aircrafttractor in a tri-cycle gear

All of the single place monoplanes can be built as legal ultralight aircraft in the U.S. To do that requires that the Hirth F 33, 28 hp engine which weighs in at only 40 lbs be used, and the plane has to be equipped with only minimal instruments, seat, wheels and tires. These planes can also be built in the amateur built / experimental category which will allow the use of the Rotax 447, and 503.

One of the most popular Fisher two seat aircraft the Dakota Hawk, features all wood construction, side by side seating and has folding wings for ease of storage.

The Dakota Hawk is usually powered by the Rotax 912 series of engines. Another popular two seat model is the Super Koala, which again is side by side seating but is designed to be powered by the Rotax 503 and 582 two stroke engines. The Fisher Horizon 1 and Horizon 2 are designed to handle more conventional aircraft engines, as well as VW conversions.

For those looking for a more barnstormer era feeling Fisher has the R 80 Tiger Moth, the Celebrity, and the Fisher Classic in two place bi planes as well as the FP 404 and Youngster in single place bi planes.

Building times for the single place models range from 300 to 350 hours with the more complex bi-planes and two place aircraft like the Dakota Hawk taking 700 to 750 hours to complete.
