While at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo I had
the opportunity to interview Don Ayers of U. S. Sport
Aircraft (USSA) the U.S. representative for the Sport
Cruiser. Since the inception of the light sport aircraft
rule in the U.S. the Sport Cruiser has been one of the lead
aircraft in sales year to year.
For a short time Piper took the craft and rebranded it as
the Piper Sport.
During this period of time a U.S. dealer
and service network was set up for the plane. When Piper
decided to focus on other aspects of the aviation
marketplace, Don and his group and U.S. Sport Aircraft put
all time and effort that Piper had invested in the project,
and continued on down the same road. |

The Sport Cruiser continues to have 10
dealers U.S. wide for sales and service of the aircraft, as
well as assembly centers, one located in Fort Pierce,
Florida center the other in Dallas Texas. Don indicates that
U.S. Sport Aircraft has a full inventory of parts in the
U.S. to support the dealer network. Don points out "what a
lot of people don't realize is that the Sport Cruiser was a
successful aircraft before Piper got involved, continued to
be successful while Piper was involved, and continues to
sell well now!"
At the U.S. Sport
Aviation Expo U.S. Sport Aircraft had on display and were
flying their latest models the Sport Cruiser Classic which
comes equipped with a "six pack" of traditional round analog
instruments located directly on the panel in front of the
pilot. This allows the pilot to do a quick glance over them
and receive information quickly and easily.
This plane is designed specifically for
the flight school market, and is priced for that market at
$119,900.00 ready to fly. Don indicates that he is noticing
a lot of interest not only from flight schools, but from
older pilots, who learned to fly with analog gauges, and are
not interested in "going back to school" to learn how to fly
a glass panel equipped aircraft. However I had to note that
Don also had on display a full glass panel equipped Sport
Cruiser as well.
