It's funny when you look back on the first
days of the introduction of light sport aircraft, the
majority of the aircraft being registered as light sport
aircraft were foreign in both design and manufacture.
While that is still the dominant trend, several U.S. owned
and operated companies have purchased an overseas design,
and are building it here in America.
One such aircraft is the Allegro 2007. The
Allegro 2007 is a side by side, two seat light sport
aircraft which was originally designed and built overseas.
It is now being produced by Allegro LSA out of their
facility in Littleton North Carolina. The original design
was the third aircraft design to meet the ASTM standard and
to obtain it's FAA Airworthiness Certificate. |

At the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo 2012, Doug
Hempstead owner of Allegro LSA had the first U.S. built
Allegro 2007 flying and on display. The Allegro features a
carbon fiber fuselage, with a T tail, and a metal wing.
Power is supplied by the Rotax 912 series of engines. Cruise
comes in at a comfortable 120 mph, stall with flaps is a
gentle 40 mph, with no surprises. Climb is an impressive
1,000 ft per minute.
I had an opportunity to fly the Allegro
2007 at the show, and came away very impressed! It speaks
volumes of an aircraft when someone can trim a plane during
take off, and fly a whole circuit, hands off without having
to touch the stick, other than to flare for touch down!
