Light Sport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include
weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes,
powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

"Doc" Bailey had his "Missouri Taildragger"
Renegade light sport, at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo the
craft is powered by a Lycoming 0-233, equipped with an
electronic ignition system, which is the first one to be
equipped on a light sport aircraft.
"Doc" is preparing the plane to try to
break a cross country record for light sport aircraft,
flying from Los Angeles to New York sometime later this
year.
The Renegade is also available in a
tricycle gear version. "Doc" is also working closely with a
number of manufacturers to design installations of the
Lycoming 0-233 into their craft. One that I am particularly
looking forward to is the installation of the engine into
the Comet from Hansen Air Group. |

The installation is expected to be completed
for Sun N Fun. With this engine installed in the
Comet it
opens up the full potential of this aircraft for aerobatic
use.
Doc was also at the show to
promote the Heart of America Sport Aviation Classic which is
going to be held October 5, 6, and 7th 2012 at Lee's Summit
Missouri. It was interesting talking to Doc about how his
group chose the dates for the show. Apparently they
consulted with the national weather service, and going back
over 50 years, "there has only been three rain outs for
these dates." "We tested this year. We were 75 to 82
degrees, with some of the nicest fall weather....." Doc
indicates that they have over 400 volunteers already.
The airport facility has great parking,
with hotel, motel and camping nearby.
