Richard Rofe President of SeaMax America, based out of Long Island New York, was at the U.S. Sport Aviation with the only current seaplane that has met the ASTM standards and is on the approved list. He was at the show to introduce the latest version of the SeaMax.

The wing on the SeaMax has been increased from 28 ft to 33 ft. 7 inches. An upswept wing let has been added to the end of the wing for better performance. The larger winger area and wingtips have greatly increased take-off and climb performance.

The wings and tail feathers have also been modified so that they can be folded back. The complete process can be performed by one person in approximately seven minutes with no tools required.

The SeaMax is also now available with a full glass panel, which can include the Dynon Skyview and the Garmin 696. The inside of the cabin in now larger, nearly 49", to better fit American pilots, the seats have been redesigned for better lumbar support and are adjustable for different pilot heights.

Another feature added to the SeaMax for 2012 is a series of Micro Camera's. These give the pilot a better view of the rear of the craft, which can come in handy when ready to start the engine, or in flight for inspection of engine operation etc. Another safety feature is that the company has demonstrated that the craft can be landed safely with the landing gear down. The video showing the landing is on view on the SeaMax America website.

The electric gear retract system retracts all three gear at the same time, with the two side wheels folding up into the side of the hull and the front gear coming completely into the front of the hull. Power for the SeaMax is supplied by the Rotax 912 ULS, 4 cylinder, liquid cooled 100 HP aircraft engine. Climb comes in at over 1,000 feet per minute. The craft empty weight 800 lbs empty with a 1430 max take off weight. The 26.5 gallons of fuel gives the craft a range of approximately 550 nautical miles.

Richard indicates the first aircraft of the new design has just arrived in New York and will be on display at Sun N Fun 2012.
