Doug and Betty Hempstead
from B-Bar-D
Aviation were at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo with their
Allegro lightsport aircraft. They have recently moved into
new facilities in
Sandford North Carolina.
According to Doug he is "bucking the trend, by taking jobs
from overseas in this case from the Czech Republic and
bringing them into the United States."
Currently the factory has 10 people working full time but
expects to have over 35 by the end of 2011. |

The Allegro which was the
third aircraft to be certified in the lightsport aircraft
category, will now be completely manufactured and built in
Sandford. The 54,000 square foot facility in Sandford will
also be the distribution point for world wide sales of the
Allegro. It is expected that the facility will produce
upwards of 20 aircraft in 2011, with the first delivery
scheduled for April 2011. This also means that all of
the aftermarket parts required to complete the plane, like
instruments, brakes, tires, will also be sourced out in the
U.S. Warranty and financing will also be available from the
factory as well as an extensive dealer network that is
currently active world wide with U.S. sales and service
outlets in the process of being set up.
The Sporty high performance
Allegro uses an all composite fuselage with metal wings,
elevator and rudder. It features side by side seating with
dual controls, with power being supplied by the Rotax 912
series of engines. The Allegro is one of the top 10 sellers
on the light sport aircraft market, and is priced as "a
value leader" with well equipped classic trainer coming in
at around $89,000.
Over 500 Allegro aircraft are
flying worldwide with nearly 70 in the U.S. with one Allegro
having over 3200 hours on it while being operated as a
lightsport aircraft.
