U.S. Sport Aviation
Expo featuring light sport aircraft, experimental
lightsport, amateur built aircraft.
|
The U.S. Sport
Aviation Expo was the first and is now the largest
lightsport aircraft event in the U.S. focused on lightsport
aircraft, and lightsport aircraft accessories.
According to organizer Bob Wood who has been running the
event for the past seven years, this years event was the
most successful to date.
Bob contributes the success of the show to the support he
receives from LAMA, and the work he and his staff do at
shows such as Sun N Fun and Airventure where they seeking
out new manufacturers, new lightsport aircraft, and
accessory supplies specific to the LSA field. |

Another factor to the shows success is the
contribution of over 250 volunteers both local and
from as far away as Indiana, who get things ready
for the show, help out during the show, and more
importantly are there to assist in putting
everything away after the show.
The
show generates a noticeable economic impact to the
Sebring area, since the majority of the people
attending the show require, accommodations, food,
rental cars, and fuel for the days leading up to and
including the show. Bob also credits the shows
success to the work of the staff of the Highlands
Today the local newspaper, it's staff and publisher
Tina Gottus who has worked with him since the show's
inception as his media arm.
Tina and her staff are responsible for all of the
press releases that we journalists receive in the
months before and after the show, and for the
organization of the press passes, media kits, etc.
that are required for press people that come from
all of the world.
Focusing in on
Light Sport
Aircraft and the Sport Pilot certificate for a show
means that the people coming into the show, although
not as large in numbers, are more likely to be
coming with a serious mind set to purchase, or to
educate themselves better. The smaller venue also
enables dealers and manufacturers to spend more time
with attendees, rather than having to deal with the
thousands and thousands of people that might go to a
show like Sun N Fun to just to see the Airshow, but
end up browsing to fill in time.
This year over seventy aircraft
exhibitors purchased outside space for displaying
aircraft while another eighty showed off avionics,
electronics, aircraft parts, propellers, engines,
pilot supplies, insurance agencies, financial
institutions, training organizations covering nearly
every aspect of recreational aviation in the two
enclosed commercial display areas.
