The
direct factory representative for the Sigma Elitar made
a round about trip to get to EAA's Airventure 2010. The trip
started in Florida, went to Long Island New York and then on to
Oshkosh Wisconsin for display and demonstration at
Airventure.
The Sigma Elitar is on the approved list of
lightsport aircraft, is manufactured in Russia and imported
into the U.S.
The
Sigma Elitar design is quite unique. It is powered by a
Rotax 912 S 100 HP aircraft engine, which is mounted in a
tractor configuration above the wing.
It uses a metal boom
to support the tail empennage, and the wing is supported by a
single strut located at the rear of the fuselage, which
allows pilots to easily enter or exit the plane. |

The 48
inch side by side seating pilot enclosure has a
very distinctive tear drop shaped fuselage, looking somewhat like a
futuristic shuttle pod. This gives it near helicopter like
visibility. The Sigma Elitar uses a combination of
aluminum and composite construction, with
the control systems covered in fabric. It features
dual stick and rudder controls, a center mounted throttle, with
manually activated slotted flaps, drooped ailerons, has a steerable
nose wheel, and comes with brakes.
Cruise comes in at around 105 knots, at just over
5,000 rpm, using approximately 5 gallons of fuel per hour.
Take off distance at gross is 250 feet, climb rate at 60
knots is over 1,100 feet per minute, stall with flaps comes
in at 42 knots. The 17 gallon fuel tanks gives
the plane a 400 mile range. The doors can be opened in
flight, but the craft must be operated as per the placarded flight
limitations.
The craft comes standard with engine and flight instruments,
cabin heat, and cabin ventilation. In flight adjustable
rudder pedals are available. For
pilots looking for a lightsport aircraft with storage space
the Sigma Elitar fits the bill with a large storage area
behind the seats.
The craft is available with floats, amphib floats, and snow
skis.
