Light Sport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include

HoneyBee G2 single
and two place gyrocopters by Aeroworks International.
|
At Airventure 2000 I had
he opportunity to interview a gentleman by the name of Jim
Fields who was offering a little kit gyrocopter in both an
ultralight and experimental version.
At Airventure 2010 Jim had on display his latest version of
the HoneyBee the G2. The HoneyBee G2 is still being offered
as a single place ultralight, a single place experimental
aircraft, and a two seat experimental aircraft.
The difference is the
look and construction of the plane. In designing the
generation II HoneyBee Jim started with a "clean sheet of
paper," " and we took "what we knew worked exceptionally
well which
were good static thrust, large horizontal
tail surfaces and light disk loading" and combined them with a
"totally-triangulated approach" of building. This gives the HoneyBee series of gyrocopters
unparallel strength and a very unique look. |

This style of strong yet
light weight construction allows the single place part 103 legal
ultralight version to be powered by a variety of engines
including the Rotax 447, Rotax 503 and MZ 201. Then
if builders wants to move up into the experimental category
they can install the Rotax 582 and 912 series of engines as
well as the Metro Geo aircraft engine conversion. The
experimental version has a heavier and larger blade system,
a larger fuel tank, stronger landing gear, and stronger
tubing running to the tail.
The single place on
display was equipped with a
Stratomaster Enigma
instrument panel
which gives you 9 full screens that you can design yourself
from a library of hundreds of instruments and functions.
The HoneyBee G2 single place experimental version powered by a Rotax
582 cruises at 75 to 80 mph., and has a minimum forward speed
of 18 mph. In the ultralight version cruise comes in at 55
mph with a forward minimum speed down to 12 mph.
All materials are built using CNC equipment, with
SolidWorks?
as the engineering platform.
The factory is offering ready to fly ultralight aircraft,
experimental amateur built aircraft kits, and has a builder
assist program that takes the builder from kit to flying in
about five days.
The two place experimental version of the HoneyBee G2 uses
the same construction techniques at the single place
version, features tandem seating, with dual controls and it
uses a 30 ft blade system, with the mast being in-flight
adjustable, which allows the instructor to better adjust for
front seat pilot weights. Power on the display model was
being supplied by a Metro Geo Suzuki 1.3 litre 16 valve four
stroke aircraft engine conversion with a reduction drive.
Currently the factory reports
a 60 day lead time on orders.
