Lightsport Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight aircraft, light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes, powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

Ultralight "people" are very inventive, take for example the people at Float Planes and Amphibs. They loved to fly on floats, but couldn't find a quality mounting system or retract system that worked, so they designed and built their own.

The float mounting kit is heavy duty, using stronger tubing, larger sleeves, side plates, and  hardware with all of the in house parts done on C&C equipment.

They had a straight float plane that they needed to get to an inland hangar during hurricane season. While they could fly to the inland strip and land the floats on the wet grass they had no way of taking off again, so they designed a cart that they could easily load their plane on, with a quick disconnect system.

The pilot gets up to flying speed hits the cart release lever the plane takes off and the cart is retrieved for the next time it is needed.

Being from a conventional aircraft background they are use to flying with instruments in front of them, but they couldn't find anyone supplying instrument pods for the wide open design of the Quicksilver so now they offer instrument pods for sale designed around the American made Engine Information System (E.I.S.).

Not happy with the quality of the aircraft trim adjuster supplied by the kit manufacturer they have designed a better adjustable trim system, push up to lift the nose, pull down to go down,  and a dual rear down tube assembly that stiffens up the back of the Quicksilver for more stability on floats, and prevents wear on the root tube and down tube assemblies.

Float planes in Florida are subject to a lot of  "salty" rain, this acts on the aluminum engines, to protect them they manufacture an engine cover that fits over the engine and exhaust when the craft is parked, and takes only a minute to install or remove.

Operating from a salt water environment with an aircraft built from aluminum means that you have to become an "corrosion expert" immediately.

Float Planes and Amphibs have used their years of experience to identify areas of concern and to supply kits to make flying on salt water safer. They also offer ready to fly craft with these mods already done.

Being a "full service" facility Float Planes and Amphibs offers training on conventional three axis craft and trikes on land, water, and amphibs.
