Lightsport
Aircraft Pilot is a directory of aircraft that generally fit
into what are described as ultralight aircraft, advanced ultralight
aircraft,
light sport aircraft, experimental light sport aircraft, experimental
aircraft, amateur built aircraft, ELSA or homebuilt
aircraft in the United States and Canada. These include
weight shift aircraft, more commonly known as trikes,
powered parachutes, and powered para-gliders.

If you can survive in this industry for nearly 3 decades you have to be doing
something right! Bever Borne of Air Tech has carved out a niche for
himself, supplying quality Quicksilver ultralight aircraft since 1978, and
designing products and services to fit his customers needs.
He is the
only company that I know of that offers a "No Lemon Pledge" - "it does
what we say it does or you money is refunded." When you consider
that he provides over 4500 different products to the ultralight market,
that is quite a pledge.
Air-Tech produces a number of items specific to the Quicksilver line
but that can be adapted to fit most ultralights. These include battery
boxes, strobe lights, wheel pants, nose bubbles (windshields), root tube
mounted fuel tanks, floats, fairings, and the RK 400 clutch system
for the Rotax C gear drive.

The Air-Tech float system was one of the first to be fitted to the MX
line of aircraft and is the only ultralight float to undergo testing in
the Louisiana swamps for over 20 years! The system is ideal for
single place aircraft up to 800 lbs gross operating from calm water.
They are strong, light and durable, and can be taken off and landed on wet
grass. An amphib system is available that uses a teflon pad on the rear of
the float to prevent wear and a set of wheels mounted on the C of G once
the aircraft starts moving the craft lifts off the tail and rides only on
the main wheels, in the air the wheels are retracted using a single lever
retract system.
Air-Tech also offers KeyWest floats, these are a Kevlar, fibreglass,
construction
using a solid foam core. The foam used is a closed cell foam, which does
not absorb water. The floats are hand crafted not mass produced, have a 1300 lbs buoyancy, an eight inch draft, and a flat wide
top that can be used as a swim platform or just for fishing from.
Accessories available from Air-Tech geared to the float plane operator
are the Illusion strobe light for better visibility especially in the
early morning and late evening hours.
Root tube mounted fuel cells of 10, 12, and 14 gallons for pilots
wishing to fly
longer distances. These come with sight gauges so the pilot can see how
much fuel he has on board.
Wing tip fences which make the wing more efficient during take-off by
stopping air flow energy from escaping from under the wing.
Rudder brace kits and rear support wires for the Quicksilver line of
aircraft. These kits are necessary to add stability to the rear of the
craft due to the extra thrust put out by the use of the RK 400 clutch and
large multi blade propellers.
The RK 400 clutch which was originally designed for airboat application
to allow for safe docking and departures. The clutch is designed for
engines up to 120 hp, and works ONLY on the Rotax C drive. This allows the
engine to start under a no load
condition, which makes for easier starting, and less wear and tear on
engine and airframe parts.
It also adds considerably to the safe operation
of a float plane, since the prop is not producing thrust and moving the
plane during docking or when first started. The clutch allows the engine
to start up and warm up without producing thrust and engages when the
pilot applies throttle and reaches 2400 rpm.
