CGS Hawk 1
part 103 legal ultralight aircraft at only 244 lbs

At the U.S. Sport Aviation
Expo I had a chance to talk to the new owner of CGS Aviation
Danny Dezauche, he indicated that by Sun N Fun 2010 CGS
would have a part 103 legal ultralight aircraft for sale.
Sure enough Danny showed up with a CGS Hawk Ultra, with full
three axis control aircraft, with flaps, and enclosure
weighing in at 244 lbs equipped with a battery and electric
start. |

He was able to accomplish this using a single
cylinder 28 hp Compact Radial MZ 34 engine with a belt
reduction drive and a two blade IVOPROP. The engine and
mount come in at approximately 50 lbs. But even with only 28
HP Danny indicates the plane gets off the ground in less
than 100 feet and climbs out at well over 500 feet per
minute.
Cruise
comes in at 55 to 60 mph with a stall of less than 25 mph.
When questioned whether he might come out
with a legal part 103 ultralight float plane his reply was
"don't tempt me, you know our location is only minutes from
the Gulf Coast, and I can definitely see a set of floats on
the Hawk Ultra in the foreseeable future." He is working
with the folks from Puddle Jumper on an installation of
their float system on his own personal two place hawk.
According to Danny the aircraft itself is
"just the same old Hawk Ultra that has been around for 28
years."
But he did indicate that in talking to
Chuck Slusarczyk he showed him several way of bringing the
weight down even more without sacrificing safety! Once he
does that he will be able to offer the Hawk Ultra in both a
tail dragger and tricycle gear version, which he expects
will be done by Airventure 2010. The Hawk Ultra is currently
available in either kit form or turn key ready to fly from
the factory.

a major show, and won the Reserve Grand Champion Ultralight
